Salzburg Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival in Salzburg – traditions, local flavors and rural charm.

Experience the 5th season in Salzburger Land

The dairymen drive their decorated cows down from the summer pastures to the village and the fruits of summer can finally be harvested. This wonderful time is traditionally celebrated in Salzburger Land with the Harvest Festival. Opening with a big festival at the end of August, the Harvest Festival continues to delight with numerous events until the beginning of November. A wonderful time for a city trip, where you can learn more about the traditions and old customs of the city of Salzburg.

Events in the Bauernherbst

Around 2,000 events are offered by farmers, innkeepers and clubs at 73 locations throughout the province. The city of Salzburg and the surrounding communities in particular are not to be outdone. From morning pints and beer seminars to the Long Night of Museums and the Harvest Festival in Salzburg Cathedral – the Salzburg Harvest Festival offers a wide variety of events for young and old. But they all have one thing in common: customs and traditions play a central role and are duly celebrated.

Customs and tradition in the Harvest Festival

Hardly any other time of year offers visitors more insights into tradition and traditional crafts than the Bauernherbst. But that’s not all: at most events you don’t just get an insight, you can even lend a hand yourself. For example, learn how to make your own alpine wreath, take a baking course for traditional organic wood-fired bread or take part in a herb workshop. Did you know that, according to tradition, Schuhplatteln is reserved for single boys to impress the pretty dirndls? No? Then it’s time for you to get to know the Salzburg Harvest Festival with its centuries-old traditions.

Harvest festival in Salzburg's traditional hotel

In keeping with the rich tradition of the Harvest Festival, we recommend staying at our Hotel Goldgasse, Hotel Stein or Hotel Amadeus, for example. The charming, traditional Hotel Amadeus is located in a 700-year-old building in the old town and is itself part of Salzburg’s history. In the old yet modern Boutique Hotel Goldgasse, we will spoil you with traditional Salzburg classics prepared with regional seasonal produce. This makes it the perfect starting point for your Salzburg vacation in the Bauernherbst.
